Embossed Kimono Vest

If you've taken the plunge and embossed velvet, you HAVE to try in now on leather! Even if it's something small, a bag or more adventuresome like this vest, it's stunning! The same technique is used, WITHOUT spritzing with water. Dry iron, 30 seconds, and VOILA!

First I adjusted my Kimono Vest pattern by making it 6" longer than the pattern. Then I embossed the rust colored suede after cutting out the pattern pieces. It's very subtle. Next, I embossed scraps of green & pumpkin suede and red leather (left over from a previous project). These were then cut out and appliquéd on to the vest.

The band was stamped with the same maple leaf by mixing Olive Green and Black to achieve a dark mossy green.

When sewing up the sides, I left the added 6" open in side slits.

The closure is a simple strip of matching suede, with glass leaf beads sewn to the ends.

Pattern used: #1007 Kimono Vest and embossed with a maple leaf!

This fun sample will go to Sandy Scrivano who writes and teaches about sewing with leather and suede. Look for her classes at The Sewing Workshop in San Francisco!
