Mosaic Batik

For this #1034 Mosaic I used Batik Cotton Clouds in mottled blue and purple for the side panels and front band, and Batik Cotton Clouds in turquoise, periwinkle and purple for the mosaic tiles and Batik Cotton Clouds in Dark Blue for the "grout" under layer. The trim was done using Spirals turquoise on purple, batik cotton print. Kona Cotton in deep blue was used for the underlining. Spirals were the perfect buttons to close it up.

Detail of mosaic tiles and blanket stitching.

I LOVE my Viking Designer 1's built-in blanket stitch. With the sensor controls of this machine it makes doing applique quick and easy!

Spirals make the perfect buttons.

Underlined with deep blue cotton, the stitching shows through. So for fun I used Rainbows/Jester rayon variegated from Web of Thread.

More trim fabric to bind the seam edges!

In place of a standard hem, I bound the lower edge with the same trim fabric!
