Pieced Cotton Mandarin Vest

For this Mandarin Vest I used a fabric bundle from JJ Handworks. I pieced the fabric in 2½" squares, and cut the pattern pieces out "on point" by simply laying the grainline parallel to the pieced fabric (in other words, on the bias). Since the one print of the "geisha" girls was so large, I opted to applique the heads only on to the pieced squares in a random pattern. I made a clear square template from Mask-It so I was sure to have their lovely faces positioned correctly.

Jane created wonderful "Kanji" buttons from our stamps. These I combined with gold twisted cording and formed my own "easy frogs" by first gluing the cord to the vest shaping it in to curlycues. When it was dry, I made it permanent by sewing it down with clear thread.
