Judy
took traditional tattoo images (from New Zealand, the South Pacific,
Japan and other places) and had them made in to custom stamps. The gauzy
jacket is made of silk chiffon. First, Judy stamped the cut-out pattern
pieces with textile inks, let them dry, then dye painted the whole surface
using a bleed technique. She wanted the silk to be skin-colored and
used the colors to highlight the tattoos.
The "arms" of the black dress were stamped with textile ink (sheer silk
chiffon layered over dyed batting) then machine quilted with many colors
of metallic thread to give detail.
