9 pc. Set of Frog Mini Batiks
1/4 yd. Mottled Blue (sashing & borders)
1/8 yard Print Fabric for Binding
5/8 yard Fabric for Backing (we
used white cotton)
5/8 yard Batting
Stamps - Tiny Dragonfly, Sitting
Frog and Leaping Frog and Yellow-Green
and Blue Textile Paints
All
seams are 1/4” - Finished Size Approx. 18½” x 18½”
STEP
1
Cut all Mini Batiks evenly to 4½” x 4½”
Cut 2 pcs. of Blue Sky Fabric 1 1/2” wide x width of fabric (45”) for
Inside Sashing
Cut 2 pcs. of Blue Sky Fabric 2 1/2” wide x width of fabric (45”) for
Outside Sashing
Cut 2 pcs. of Print Fabric 1 3/4” wide x width of fabric (45”) for Binding
STEP
2
Arrange Mini’s in a pleasing order 3 x 3.

Choose a 1½” strip of Blue Sky to be the inside sashing for each
mini.

Sew Blue Sky sashing to both top and bottom sides of all
three middle frog mini’s. Press seams toward sashing.
STEP

Sew top and bottom frog rows to center row. Press seams toward sashing.

STEP

Sew a 1½” strip of Blue Sky sashing to either side of center
set of frogs. Press seams toward sashing.
Sew
left and right frog sets to center row. Press seams toward sashing.
STEP

Sew 2½" wide Blue Sky sashing first to top
and bottom sides of frogs. Then sew remaining 2½"
wide sashing to left and right sides. Press seams toward sashing.
STEP

Stamp tiny dragonflies to inside sashing. Stamp sitting
frogs in each corner. Stamp 4 leaping frogs between
corners.

Cut Batting and Backing slightly larger than mini quilt. Layer Backing,
Batting and Mini Quilt. Pin layers in place.
Free-motion quilt along edges of inside sashing, (swirling around dragonflies)
both horizontally and vertically. Free-motion quilt around frogs. Machine
baste raw edges. Trim off excess batting and backing even with quilt
top.
STEP
9
Fold Binding in half (wrong sides together), press. Stitch to edge of
quilt in the French Binding method. Beginning with long vertical sides
first, place binding strip on the WRONG side of quilt, raw edges even,
stitch in 1/4” seam, trim off corners to reduce bulk. Press toward outside.
Wrap binding around raw edge to RIGHT side of quilt, placing folded
edge of binding *just* beyond stitching line. Topstitch in place.

Repeat binding for top and bottom edges, folding in at corners when
you wrap the binding over the raw edge. (You may need to trim out some
excess bulk to make it turn under at the corners).
